Why do salycilic acid need to be thoroughly dried before using it to produce aspirin?

in our experiment, we synthesized salicylic acid from methyl salicylate. Through suction filtration, we have to dry it. Te synthesized salicylic acid will be used to generate aspirin. why do we need to dry it up?
